Hi, my name is Jess. Welcome to my event planning blog!
A little about me… I am originally from Bloomington, Indiana (go Colts!) but just recently moved to San Diego, California after spending 26 years of my life in the town where I was born and raised.
I made the craziest decision of my life last August and decided to quit my job and move cross-country to pursue a career in event planning. I’m currently taking classes at the University of San Diego to earn my Certificate in Event Management and plan to finish by June of this year. I just finished an internship in December with the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival, Southern California’s largest wine and food festival. It was such a blast and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside some amazing professionals in the events industry!
My interest in events probably came as a result of my love for company and entertaining. I’ve always enjoyed coming up with ideas of new places to go and fun things to see and do. My family also played a big role. When it comes to holidays, my family has always gone all out—from decorating the house to menu planning—all while keeping the holiday theme in mind. They passed that tradition down to me, which is why when a holiday rolls around, I want to do EVERYTHING that reminds me of that holiday. Christmas? Hot cocoa with Christmas-tree-shaped marshmallows start calling my name. Halloween? Costume parties, here I come! St. Patties Day? Bring on the Guinness!
Aside from event planning, I have a huge appreciation for wine and beer. There’s nothing better than spending an afternoon kicking back with girlfriends and a bottle of wine. For that reason, I love going to wineries and breweries. There’s something about trying a new wine or beer that is so much fun! And the atmosphere doesn’t hurt either :-). I love wine so much I decided to take a wine class, and in January I completed my Intermediate Certificate in Wine & Spirits through the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust. I am so excited to finally be able to put my knowledge of wine to good use!
I also work part-time at Starbucks and am slowly building up my knowledge of coffee. So, if you ever have any questions like “what’s a macchiato?” or if you need coffee suggestions, bring it my way!
